HTC Wildfire S Android Smartphone Announced

HTC Desire is not the only one getting a revival so is the low end Wildfire – welcome HTC Wildfire S. Compared to its predecessor it’s 5 mm shorter thanks to the omission of the optical trackball and even 13 grams lighter. The resolution of the 3.2 inch screen capacitive touchscreen was bumped up from 240 x 320 pixels to 320 x 480 pixels which brings it in line with HTC Legend and HTC Hero. This move probably means we can say farewell to both of them as they will probably be replaced by the Wildfire S. Other improvements are increased RAM from 384 MB to 512 MB and a faster processor 600 MHz compared to the previous that was running at 528 MHz.

For an unknown reason HTC decided to include a lower capacity battery with the Wildfire S (1230 mAh) which results in shorter battery life of up to 350 minutes of talk time compared to the Wildfire which has a 1300 mAh battery which lasts up to 440 minutes of talk time. The HTC Wildfire like HTC Desire S will to run Google Android 2.4 (Gingerbread) with HTC Sense UI. A feature that we will miss with Wildfire S that Desire S does have is the support for .avi and .xvid video formats so you better get your video encoding software ready if you will go for the Wildfire S when is released sometime this summer in. It will be available in a range of colours including white, black and purple. No word on pricing yet but you can expect it to be similarly priced as its predecessor at free from £20/£25 month. Until then check videos below for your pleasure while photos and full specifications can be found on the next page.
