Alienware M11x was the first 11.6 inch notebook to deliver enough punch for gaming with featuring nVidia GeForce GT 335m graphics and thanks to nVidia Optimus it also offered about 6 hour battery life. It was very well received by the public and media alike with really only one complaint – the processor. Alienware Dell decided to change that with announcement that the third revision (R3) of Alienware M11x will be updated with a selection of Intel Core i5 and i7 Sandy Bridge processors. Again being first to feature latest processors from Intel in such a small notebook.
Yours truly will be able to select between a 1.4 GHz Intel Core i5 2537M (TurboBoost up to 2.3 GHz), 1.5 GHz Intel Core i7 2617M (TurboBoost up to 2.6 GHz) or 1.6 GHz Intel Core i7 2657M (TurboBoost up to 2.7 GHz). A selection which definitely promises a much need speed boost demanded by all the latest video game titles. No word on what graphics card the notebook will use which is very promising as it means that the Alienware M11x R3 will also get a graphics upgrade to even further push the performance. Why would Dell keep quite about the graphics if it decided to keep it the same, right?
No info on pricing yet but be sure that the processor upgrades will probably add about £100 to the already a premium price of £949 that currently Alienware M11x R2 currently retails at Dell UK. Or might Dell actually follow Apple’s pricing model for once and just replace the old processors from their offering and keep the price the same. Luckily we will not to wait much longer to found out as Alienware M11x is scheduled to be released sometime in the April 2011.
