If you really can't spend more than £300 on a notebook the HP Compaq Presario CQ57-371EA is probably your best choice thanks to not only the sufficient performance but also a good battery life that previous generation AMD and any Intel's budget platform can't come anywhere near. Still we think you would be better of spending an extra £50 on a previous generation Intel Core i3 notebook. Why not check out the SaveOnLaptops Core i3 Sale that currently starts at £315 for the HP 630.

The Compaq Presario CQ57- 366SA is a perfectly acceptable budget laptop, with special mention going to the battery life and speaker system. It doesn't look, or perform, like a standout laptop and there are alternatives - such as the Acer Aspire 5742 - but if you're searching for a basic machine for the next year or two this is a good pick.
