Apple 17-inch MacBook Pro MC311B/A Review posted on
17 inch Premium Notebook
The MacBook Pro range takes a great leap forward with the 2011 refresh, and this 17-inch model is no exception. The popular unibody aluminium form factor is retained, but across-the-board component upgrades (SuperDrive excepted) gives it a huge performance improvement over its predecessor. Apple is wise to spec-match the sole 17-inch model to the top 15-inch MacBook Pro instead of the next one down, and although expensive, the price increase from the mid-2010 refresh is reasonable.

Don't get us wrong - if you're an imaging professional, it's hard to argue that there are many more suitable choices out there than the new Apple MacBook Pro 17in. It's a truly brilliant laptop in most key areas, but don't let that fool you into thinking you're getting great value for your money. As with previous top-end MacBook Pros, this 17in model comes at quite a premium.

The MacBook Pro 17 is without a doubt a very impressive laptop. The excellent combination of powerful performance, light weight case and long battery life is unmatched. It's clearly developed for Mac OS X and only when using this operating system can you reap all the benefits the MacBook Pro 17 has in store. Switchable graphics cards, a longer battery life and the entire array of hardware features is only accessible under Mac OS X. In Windows 7, most things work alright but not as well as we'd hoped.
