Lenovo IdeaPad U300s M6845UK Reviews
With its minimalist appearance and fantastic build quality, the U300s is a gorgeous example of Intel's Ultrabook specification. It's also quite well priced compared to the competition, but then it lacks some ports and uses a slightly slower processor than most. Business users will prefer the Toshiba's Portege Z830 for its integrated Ethernet and VGA ports, and, despite its £60 higher price, we think the Asus ZenBook UX31 is a better all-rounder thanks to its higher screen resolution and faster performance.

The UltraBook is inspiring right from the first moment with its elegant and incredibly slim design. The workmanship of the aluminum chassis can easily keep up with the unibody case from Apple, but has to regrettably accept a few deductions in stability. Also, there is room for improvement on the somewhat loose and clearly wobbly display hinges. The screen is only suitable for outdoor use to an extent. The backlight is too dark and, alike most competing products, the surface reflects intensely.

Like the ASUS UX31, the Lenovo IdeaPad U300s gets many things right, but not enough to beat the 13-inch MacBook Air. While it may not be as flashy, we like this Ultrabook's solid aluminum design, excellent performance, and nearly 7 hours of battery life. Yet, for $1,495, we would expect a backlit keyboard, higher-res screen, and SD card slot. We're still waiting for the perfect Ultrabook, but the U300s is a very good choice for those pining for a Windows-powered Air alternative.
